Here we have two different patterns:
This one was built on the pattern that was used for the Emperor violin, a great golden Period Stradivari. It has the slightly smaller dimensions of the legendary masterpieces by Guarneri del Gesu, but with the classic Strad elegance. I've made a number of violins on this pattern over the years.
My style of making is an outgrowth of my study of the work of the great Italian makers, and it uses some of the same freedom incorporated in their instruments; so much so that I discovered that the pattern had gradually evolved into something that better expressed my own tonal ideals. The differences are very slight, and readily apparent only to a practiced eye, and yet they mark this violin as one uniquely my own.
